Over time I have accumulated some 25000 images.
Admittedly not many of them are worthy of sharing as they are mainly family trips and events that I feel are not worth displaying. However I have always found it difficult to keep them in a good organised manner. Software such as Picasa and Adobe Lightroom whilst are very good seem to only duplicate the issue and with large numbers of images navigation becomes painful.

I have my collection stored in several places and on different media so as to limit loss if damaged or accidentally deleted.

Recently I purchased a tablet PC as I wanted a way of viewing the collection without the hassle of booting the PC and to be able to quickly get through and find what I am after, also with the added hope that it will make it easier to share the image both with other people via the screen along with being able to publish them directly online.
So far so good, although at present the gallery app on the android does seem to be flawed in the way it displays the folders but I’m told this will improve with the next major update.

I just received my large memory card so will transfer all of my images to the device soon and see how the device copes along with how it enables me to interact with them.

At the start of October in 2011 was the penultimate round of the British Touring Car Championship which was being held at Brands Hatch.
We managed to get tickets through Honda UK by winning a competition courtosy of the S2000 car owners forum.

The day didn’t start well as we arrived 3 mins late for registration to get in for the parade lap. They wouldn’t let us through citing Health and Safety.
This was quite dissapointing as it was the full track and not just the smaller Indy circuit.
We parked up and made the best of the day.
The weather was spectacular for the second day of October and I’d go so far to say it was the hottest day of the year.
Plenty of cars and action of track ranging from Junior Ginetta to Porche Super Cup and Renaults Clio’s along with the headline act of the BTCC where the Honda’s have been so good this year they have had to be impeded with weight to give the other teams a chance.

Honda UK treated us well in the hospitality tent and kept us well refreshed which was good due to the heat.
Most of the event I attend at Brands Hatch are the smaller ones which use the Indy circuit but the BTCC take full advantage of the facilities and the entire track was used. I went to parts of it that I hadn’t been to before, I usually just go to the Druids hairpin as you can get so close to the cars on track.
I’m so glad we did venture further as there are plenty of prime places that are also as close to the action and give good photo opporunities.

At one point I was standing at the final corner of the track as they exist the final straight under the bridge and I was astonished at the speed that Plato was travelling into and out of the corner, utterly amazing.

The two Honda drivers were pushing hard and in the final round Matt Neal suffered two punctures which dropped him down the order.

Please have a look at my set and if you get a moment leave a comment.

I was lucky enough to win a competition earlier this year to visit Codemasters in Birmingham and get to play an early version of Formula 1 2011.

I was asked a few days later to give them feedback and below you can find what I wrote.

I know it was a while ago but thought it might be of interest to fans of the game.

F1 2011 Codemasters call for questions feedback

Staqe 1

20% race at Istanbul.

Immediate issue was not having used that Fanatec wheel before, I was a little lost on it due to button layout, but once I had a few practise laps I was up to speed and feeling of the car.

Setup

22″ inch screen

Xbox 360 based game

Fanatec wheel

Vision racer seat

Position 2 on grid in the Ferrari.

Option tyre to start

Strategy lap 5 to pit.

Race start

Immediately clear was the visual clarity, the yellow tinge no longer present, gave an almost photo realistic view of the track.

Having said that the start lights were a little hard to see but this may be the screen size and concentration on my start.

The Pirelli tyres looked so distinctive.

The first few corners I could feel the grip level difference and whilst being very conscious of breaking points and turn in on the usual lines I would take, in my mind I was trying to fell for differences.

A couple of times through turns 3 & 4 I felt the rear of the car start to go as I got the power down but managed to turn the wheel to grab it back.

Being able to feel the car is a major lacking factor in ‘F1 2010’ as I’ve rarely managed to get the car out of a spin when at full tilt and under pressure.

On the final straight from turn 11 and braking to turn twelve the tyres showed how much they have moved on in this game. The front left locked up and I could feel the effect so immediately reacted & that felt very good.

I kept the lead and pitted on lap 5.

On entry to the pits I thought the car would be picked up at the same point as in 2010 but it wasn’t so nudged the wall, thankfully I’d slowed enough.

In & out of the pits.

(again due to wheel unfamiliarity I didn’t want to start pressing buttons and risk my race so I didn’t get to see if anyone was in the pits behind me)

Same on exit that once past the pit wall your now in control earlier.

Lap 8 I could see the second car gaining on me and had to defend, luckily missing a spinner at one point that would have surely cost me the race.

He got past on lap nine but I dug in and got it back with a daring plunge into turn 12 again.

A little contact but no enough for either of us to spin. I kept on it and my heart was pounding under the pressure.

At one point I ran a little wide and moments later the engineer came over that radio to tell me I’d picked up some marbles on the dirty track and to get back on line to clear the tyres.

The hard tyre showed visual wear well, again I noticed this mostly on turn 12 when slowing from full speed. Very good.

I crossed the line to finish in 1st, wow what a race.

I got up and immediately went and shook the hand of the 2nd place driver as he drove very fairly.

I stood back by my screen to see Alonso in Parc-ferme getting out of the car and get patted on the back by Button whilst he/I celebrated the win.

This looked very cool and more in line with what you want when you’ve won the race.

It then dawned on me that I had managed to win without using the KERS once. This was more down to me just being in 2010 mode and just getting straight on the game without thinking about it.

Stage 2

Time Trial at Melbourne

Setup

DBox platform

God knows what size screen projector

PC based game

F1 full functioning steering wheel

Not having the time to get to grips with gears and assists off when I play at home I asked Lee to set as I have it at home

Brake Assist OFF

ABS ON

TC MEDIUM

Racing line OFF

Gears AUTO

First lap I gave it 80% around to figure out how the setup worked and second lap I was on it and on the second to last corner I went through the BEST ghost, but then on the last corner I pushed just a tad too hard to try and keep place but spun. I was gutted.

Once everyone had taken their turn we had a little extra time before moving to the next section so those that hadn’t set a time got another chance.

Then Gary Paffett came in and jumped on.

He set a time of 1.23.999

I got back on after him and gave it my all, the full F1 wheel, massive projected screen and DBox platform took you to another level of gaming, as I came out of the last corner I was a fraction behind his ghost. 1.24.184

The placement of the DRS and KERS buttons was ideal on this wheel and having watched the others

and had time to take it all in I had used both of them quite well during the lap.

Obviously in the full game during career practise sessions is where learning this will come in.

In both of those above race & TT I was able to be more aggressive through the corners due to the handling system improvements giving me more immersion and track feedback.

Being a winner of a heat I got to race again in the final

This is where it all went wrong, I should have gone back to the seat I started with but I’d noticed at the other end of the room an MS wheel so thought being more familiar I should go with this.

Stage 3

30% race at Istanbul.

Setup

40″ inch screen

Xbox 360 based game

Microsoft wheel

Not sure make of seat

Position 2 on grid in the Ferrari.

Option tyre to start

Strategy lap 6 to pit.

Race start

Good start but on the second corner as I turned in the whole wheel & base moved which put me into a spin, now in last place I was frustrated and annoyed with myself.

When I got to a straight I tried tightening the wheel but the clamp was tight, it was being on a metal plate that allowed it to move.

I then set about trying to get a good feel for the car and trying to push that little bit harder into corners.

By lap 5 I was up to 6th but in my approach pushed a bit too hard and spun.

I do have to admit that with this setup the feel wasn’t as immersive as the first, maybe some of could be I was trying too hard.

By lap 12 I pitted again with nothing to lose I ignored the race and tried to get to grips with the feel.

On lap 14 I went offline out of turn 9 & 10 and span onto the grass. I found it difficult to get it to stop spinning and after 3 turns just stopped then righted myself. Hopefully this won’t be as bad in the final game, I’m sure I heard Lee Mathers mention that the grass slip levels still needs to be developed.

The buttons for KERS and DRS were easier for me to work out as I use the MS Wheel at home.

The OSD regarding the speed/gear/revs/KERS and DRS was very well laid out and used minimal amounts of screen whilst still being very clear.

Even a day later I’m still trying to process it all as it went so fast.

Thanks again to Codemasters for the opportunity & I also appreciate this all helps you in progressing the game.

With the limited game play I got the game felt very much improved but also being limited didn’t allow full review of the menu’s & screens that I would have liked.

My mum has Parkinsons Disease and has done for nearly 15 years now.

Recently my brother and I along with our familes have had to go through the hard task of putting our dear mum into a care home as she was to much of a risk to herself alone at home.

Parkinsons is a very debilatating disease and I urge you if you know anyone whom has it in the early stages to push them to keep on at the doctors and hospital and take any physical advice they can as it will help massivly in the later stages.

Our mum has always been a very strong willed independant person whom raised myself and my brother on her own and she has done us proud.

Only for her to be stricken down with Parkinsons at the time she would be enjoying being a grandparent.

It is very hard for us all, but we can only hope that a cure comes for others in the future.

Please visit the charity page and follow the links to get a better understanding of Parkinsons disease

I tried once before to use wordpress as the front end to my web site and found it very time consuming to navigate the system and learn the functions to get the most out of it. Also I wasn’t keen on the templates and from searching the Internet in order to get a photo themed gallery based template would cost quite a bit of money that I couldn’t justify for a personal site.

Recently my brother started a blog and by his own admission he is not computer savvy, although he’s better than he gives himself credit for, and he inspired me to look into it again.

F1 The Fast and always Furious

I came across a site called themeforest and it had a number of templates at very reasonable prices so I did a bit of research and found one I liked and started up a wordpress site on top of my existing site so I can experiment and develop it before I decide if I will replace my software developed site.

Once I’ve figured out the core issues like posting galleries and categorizing I should be good to go.
